Perfecting Holiness in the Fear of God: A Devotional
Living in the fear of God is not a fluke. It is something one must pursue, seek after, and ask for. It is the fear of God that leads to wisdom, including wisdom on how to walk in holiness.
Living in the fear of God is not a fluke. It is something one must pursue, seek after, and ask for. It is the fear of God that leads to wisdom, including wisdom on how to walk in holiness. Holiness is not a fluke. It is not something imposed or imputed upon us.
The righteousness we receive on salvation is justification. It is reconciliation with God and a new nature. Jesus became our righteousness and holiness by giving us his life, but we must continue in it by walking in it and producing fruit that reflects it. We have our part to play.
Holiness is something we must pursue and strive after by spiritual practice and diligence. God cannot force us to be holy, but He expects us to be holy. He says, "Be holy, for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). Holiness is a pursuit, and it is a lifestyle. It is something that must be seen in our conduct. It is the fear of God that helps us perfect holiness.
"Follow (pursue) peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14
"Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always CONTINUE IN THE FEAR OF THE LORD." Proverbs 23:17
"Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, PERFECTING HOLINESS in the FEAR of GOD." 2 Corinthians 7:1
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 9:10
"Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name." Psalm 86:11
"Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!" Deuteronomy 5:29

Have you given your life to Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior? He loves us so much that he, our creator, left heaven and came to earth, dying for us on the cross, taking our sins upon him so that we may be forgiven and receive his righteousness. He conquered death by rising from the dead and made a way for us who were dead in sin to be reconciled back to the Father (God). What’s more, he has prepared a wonderful home for us in heaven, where those who love him and obey him will spend eternity with him. Learn more here about how to be born again and have eternal life after this brief life on earth.
